About the Show
To chase his blues away, a modern day musical theatre addict known simply as 'Man in Chair' drops the needle on his favorite LP – the 1928 musical comedy THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. From the crackle of his hi-fi, the musical magically bursts to life on stage, telling the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business to get married, her producer who sets out to sabotage the nuptials, her chaperone, the debonair groom, the dizzy chorine, the Latin lover and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs.
Audition Requirements
For the audition, please prepare a monologue and a verse and/or chorus of a standard Broadway song. Please bring sheet music in the key you will sing it in (the accompanist will not transpose on the spot, and we do not do auditions with CD accompaniment or a cappella singing). The song and the monologue together should not last more than three minutes. Also, please bring a headshot and resume.
Dance Requirements
Dance call will be held during callbacks. ALL actors called back need to attend the dance call and should be dressed in dance appropriate clothes. Men should bring jazz sneakers and women should bring character shoes. If you can tap dance, please also bring your tap shoes.

Parts
Seattle Musical Theatre is auditioning actors, singers and dancers for the following:
**ALL ACTORS SHOULD HAVE AN OVERWHELMING SENSE OF FUN/PLAY/JOY AND SHOULD BE SKILLED COMEDIANS**
MAN IN CHAIR - 30's-50's, non-singing. Musical theatre aficionado who mourns the end of the Golden Era. Quirky and reserved, he is absolutely obsessed with the Golden Age of musical theatre. Like, REALLY obsessed. Lovably awkward and odd, he is the heart of the show.
JANET VAN DE GRAAF - 20's-30's, G-Eb, triple threat. The famous bride, played by rising star Jane Roberts. A leading lady all the way - beautiful, poised, and on the verge of knowing it. A true star-in-the-making.
ROBERT MARTIN - 20's-30's, leading man, C-Ab. MUST TAP DANCE. The dashing, ever-cheerful groom, played by matinee-idol Percy Hyman A little too knowledgable of his good looks, and a total cheeseball. If Janet's not the best actress in the world, next to Robert she looks like Meryl Streep.
THE DROWSY CHAPERONE - SEEING BOTH MEN AND WOMEN FOR ROLE. 30's-50's, F-D. Janet's alcoholic confidante, played by well-established stage actress Beatrice Stockwell. Somewhere between Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Carol Channing, Ethel Merman, Elaine Stritch, Eartha Kitt, Shirley Bassey and RuPaul.
ALDOLPHO - 30's-50's, A#-G. European self-proclaimed "ladies man", played by former silent movie star Roman Bartelli. An absolute minstrel show of an European stereotype. You can tell that he's mostly done silent movies.
MRS. TOTTENDALE - 40's-60's, G-Db. Dumb as a box of hair.
UNDERLING - 40's-60's, Ab-G. British. Butler.
MR. FELDZIEG - 40's-60's, Db-Db. Producer with a commanding presence.
KITTY - 20's-30's, Bb-F. Sleezy, bleach-blonde chorine. Think Lily St. Regis in ANNIE.
GANGSTERS - 20's-50's, Db-Gb. Ideally, Italian twins who have a vaudeville act. Need two actors who look alike with great skills in physical comedy. Preferably short.
GEORGE - 20's-40's, F-Bb, MUST TAP DANCE. The best man at the wedding. Strong character actor, lovable but not "cute."
TRIX - 20's-40's, Ab-Eb. African American. Lesbian airplane pilot. Big, boisterous and full of joy.
ENSEMBLE (4) - 20's-40's, all vocal ranges. Looking for singers who move extremely well.
